BELL SHAPE DECANTER WITH DECAGON STOPPER

Orange glass

Not as deep a colour as Amber, tending towards a Pink but it is definitely closer to an Orange

Blown as indicated by the clear pontil mark on the base, not so carefully finished off with small rough edges around it (not fire glazed)
Definitely moulded too - the joins down each side can be clearly seen and actually a secondary line is near these joins which seems to have been created when the glass was put together in the moulds - this must have been machine blown and moulded.

There is no pattern to speak of, 3 rings around the top and bottom of the decanter.

The base is an octagonal shape

The orange glass stopper though is a decagon shape

Into the top of the stopper has been pressed the design of a five leaf clover (Irish?)

There are no makers marks on names anywhere on the two pieces.

Depression glass was mass produced and often not of great makers quality - flaws abound in this type of glass usually however this piece is not too bad, a small bubble and the glass has a ripple effect which is not intentional.

MEASUREMENTS:

150mm high x 110mm diameter at its widest point

THIS ITEM HAS A DEFECT WITH THE STOPPER (ONLY)

The stopper is a decagon (10 star shaped points) and one point has been broken off - this is a clean break and not sharp to the finger and no resulting cracks of any kind. So the decagon really is a nonagon! due to the defect.

The stopper may have had some sort of seal at the top of the bottle but that has long since gone, so when the stopper is inserted into the top of the bottle it has some slight movement, it is not airtight.

We never found this to be an issue as its use was decorative only but if you intended putting in a liquid which needed to be airtight then you will need to improvise some sort of seal (e.g whiskey)
