BACKGROUND INFO
We have had these teaspoons (actually there were more but they have been 'snapped up' by another person who saw them!)
There are two aspects to these teaspoons which make them interesting ...
a) The maker could not be positively identified
Stamped (looks to have been hand stamped as there are variations in the stamp placement from teaspoon to teaspoon) as GWS & S A1
While the A1 is easy, meaning it is "highest grade" Silver plated, the GWS & S has not been so easy to identify. We are pretty sure we picked these up in England "many moons" ago ... looking at various references, there are conflicting pieces of information, including Google AI which gets all tongue tied when trying to give information on these (it's like trying to get sensible information from a child!) AI first said, Oh those are Grosvenor (Australia) but no further evidence, then next time I asked Google it told me these were German Silver - sorry but Google needs to "take a rest" on this one. Others offering GWS & S make other claims as to the manufacturer but with no supporting evidence ... so the origins of these teaspoons elude us! We STRONGLY suspect these are British made, but by whom?
b) Perhaps the most interesting fact is that these are TWO PART spoons, a manufacturing technique which ceased in the early 1900's - since that time, tableware tends to be stamped as one piece. Two part refers to the joining of the bowl to the stem, the join can be easily seen when viewed - these teaspoons were not created from one continuous piece of metal.
GWS & S - Teaspoon
Origin probably Britain
Date of manufacture is not known, but likely to be from the early 20th Century
Silver Plated two part spoon, meaning the bowl and stem are two separate pieces which have been skillfully fused together.
DIMENSIONS:
113mm total length with a 23.5mm width oval shaped bowl
WEIGHT: 6g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED (frequently!)
Clean
NO oxidisation spots to the base metal (little Brown or Black dots) on any of the teaspoons
While there are numerous "useage" scuff marks and light scratches, nothing out of the ordinary for such an item
NO physical damage to any teaspoon bowl or stem
All teaspoon rear stampings are easily visible, although very small!
To maintain the current condition, each teaspoon has now been placed within a sealed clear plastic packet while awaiting a new home to live in!
