Wileman & Company was formed in 1872, using the name The Foley China.

In 1910, the Shelley's (Joseph & Percy) joined Wileman's and from 1910 onwards all of their products were backstamped as Shelley

The factory was located in Staffordshire

SHELLEY Fine China

Circa 1913 ~ 1926

Fine Bone China

Pattern: Versaille (11426)

Translucent, meaning if held to light you can see the shadow of your fingers through the china

Made in England

Trinket Dish (Medium)

Backstamp would indicate this piece dates during the period 1938 ~ 1966 but we "feel" that due to similarity of design to other pieces we have, this is likely to be from the early 1950's

Backstamp (pale Green & Purple) reads:

SHELLEY CHINA

(within a shield shape)

ENGLAND

Rg 351373

"VERSAILLE"

11426

REG. NO. 714138

The artist and gilder's marks are clearly visible

Bright White base background colouring

Heavily scalloped rim with Gold gilding

Hand decorated artwork and Gold gilding

The Versailles design features long-tailed birds of paradise

MEASUREMENTS:

130mm wide x 25mm high

COSMETIC CONDITION:

NO crazing

NO cracks/chips

NO discolouration to the bright White base

NO damage to the artwork

NO wear apparent to the Gold gilded scalloped rim

NOTE however that upon a very close inspection of the dish topside base area I can see a few very light "cut" marks - these are very difficult to see unless viewed with magnification.
