HISTORY:
This vernier dial is one of a few that I always had on hand when I wanted precise voltage or current control from the equipment front panel AND they look great!
This vernier dial is placed over the control component 1/4" shaft, usually a multi-turn potentiometer, and when the central Black knob is rotated through 360 degrees, a tiny little window advances the count by 1, the range being 0 to 20. The dial still rotates through 360 degrees but you can precisely measure up to 20 rotations. The shaft is NOT geared down, as you move the control knob, the shaft moves in exactly the same fashion. But when used with a multi-turn shaft such as a 20 turn pot. you can have very precise control of the multi-turn potentiometer and when the setting you want has been reached, move the Black plastic lever across and the shaft is then locked in place stone dead, no backlash!
Easy to install onto existing 1/4" shafts

Bi-directional - you can rotate the shaft forwards or backwards and the window continues counting the rotations correctly.
Around the outside of the central control knob is a scale, numbered 0 to 90 and the white division markings are 0.2 apart
Knob, scale and lowest portion of the vernier dial are all Black plastic material
The central (Silver coloured) area is metal and inside, the gearing is metal.
Attachment to the 1/4" shaft being controlled is a single side mounted grub screw (very small Hex head)
The only identification of the manufacturer is INSIDE the dial (where the shaft fits) - stamped into the diecast metal is the text
"SAKAE" JAPAN

Knob diameter 12mm
Body diameter (near the panel it is fitted onto) is 22.4mm diameter
Complete assembly height is 25mm
Fits onto a standard 1/4" round shaft (no need for a "flat spot")
The shaft fitting looks to be diecast metal, not plastic (which would wear)
The body of the vernier dial is held in position (so that it does not rotate independently) by a short plastic pin on the underside of the dial, 1.5mm OD - this would normally fit into a corresponding hole on the equipment panel.

COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED but practically "like new"
CLEAN
Smooth rotation, very nice.
Small window accurately shows the number of rotations and has a positive "click over" from one rotation to the next (not a slowly evolving number, if you know what I mean)
Brake has positive and secure action, move it over and that central knob will not move at all!
Removed originally from some very high end power supplies, enabling extremely precise voltage and current settings to be made using a 20 turn BOURNS pot.
Now stored safely away in a sealed clear plastic packet, awaiting a new owner
