HISTORY:
This equipment is designed for use by the medical profession, specifically for eye related inspections.
In our previous audio post production business, we needed to look very closely at record styli to check for any significant wear or damage and tried various gadgets made for that purpose but they were never easy to use and then we came upon on this instrument - absolutely perfect for our purposes. As a side benefit, it is also great for looking VERY closely at compact printed circuit boards or tight - difficult to see areas inside equipment.
So we "repurposed" this medical instrument to our needs in electronics.
Now, this instrument is no longer required by us - there are NO faults with the instrument.

The purpose of offering this equipment is in the field of electronics where there can be a need to examine very small objects at very close distances, for example to establish the condition of a record styli tip
This is quite old equipment but still in fully functioning condition.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

The main white tube is held in the hand - this instrument is portable.
Inside that white tube are 2x D size batteries - nothing special about these.
On the top of the tube is a thread/electrical connections and it is here that the "head" is screwed in.
There are two heads supplied, the long pointed one is intended for the ear canal (Otoscope) and the diamond shaped head is intended for eye examination (Ophthalmoscope).
Each head has its own light source inside - both light sources WORK!
You can use the instrument with no light source at all or vary the light intensity with a small lever on the side of the white tube.
This light source precisely illuminates the target.
The pointed head (ear canal) provides a nice clear image of a record styli without any difficulty but our preference was always the ophthalmoscope head because it has a manually rotated wheel on the side which switches different lens so you have more control of the image focus depending upon how close you are to the target being viewed.
Easy to setup and easy to get very good image results - perfect if you have styli in unknown condition and wish to closely examine them for excessive wear or defects.

TESTING:
Known to be working as we used it for many years but I have rechecked this instrument prior to advertising - everything is fine.
To prevent issues with postal authorities, NO BATTERIES will be supplied (makes it light too of course = cheaper to post) - just insert 2x D batteries with negative to the bottom (sitting on the copper spring)
Weights (without batteries) relevant which will affect shipping costs:
Total instrument weight with case: 700g
Otoscope/Ophthalmoscope body with both heads: 300g
A substantial amount of weight is in the casing. For international buyers this can make a great deal of difference to the shipping cost so I will ship WITHOUT the case if desired.
