Oh Dear! This item has been sold but take a look around for other similar items

My Sansui DA-P500 turntable was a fully functioning turntable, albiet a "budget" model, but the lid was no longer useful so I have now parted out the useful parts of the turntable, all tested prior to dismantling.

My Sansui DA-500 is now an "organ donor", sacrificed so that other turntables may live again! So noble.

I am very "big" on sustainability, re-using or re-purposing equipment (no matter how trivial or old it may be) because a LOT of EE (Embodied Energy) was used to create this module and to throw something like this away, poison our landfill etc is just so irresponsible and such a waste of expended energy. Everything we humans have created required energy (and raw materials) for it's creation and often that amount of energy (EE value) is surprisingly high. So after using those raw materials and expending considerable energy to create an item, we then throw it away! Such terrible wastage.

Anyway, here is the complete details of this tonearm headshell complete with the cartridge/original styli and mounting hardware

Sansui DA-P500 direct drive turntable (SPARE PART)

Parts offered (as pictured):

Sansui SC-80 phono cartridge

Sansui SN-80 styli

Headshell with all mounting hardware

DETAIL:

The SC-80 cartridge specifications:

Frequency response (estimated) 10Hz ~ 20kHz (based on the specs of a near "cousin" the SC-60)

Output: 2.5mV per channel (1kHz 50mm/second)

Load impedance: 47k Ohm

Recommended tracking force: 2.5g (yes, 2.5g which is quite heavy)

Channel balance: 1.5dB

Alloy tube cantilever with a bonded round shank

The SN-80 is the styli (original)

I am supplying the original styli

Originals are no longer made but I have seen 3rd party manufacturers offering "equivalents"

Conical diamond tip

.7 mil

Mounting hardware is all plastic

Standard 1/2" mounting with light aluminium mounting bolts

COSMETIC CONDITION:

All components are clean

Close examination of the styli tip shows light wear but not excessive ALTHOUGH I would always highly recommended changing the styli as soon as practicable as i have no records about how many playing hours this tip has seen.

Cantilever looks fine

General mounting parts are undamaged

TESTING:

All wiring has been left "as original", no changes and no attempts made to remove the connectors from the cartridge pins - best leave things alone after 40 years of peace!

I have had this sitting in my storage units for "yonks" - it was never used for our serious turntable work in the studios and was put into "retirement" years ago.

Played a couple of test records and actually the audio is not too bad considering the market these turntables were aimed at "I wanna play records but have very little money"

Noticeably more tolerant of record surface scratches which resulted in considerably less vinyl surface noise, all due to that conical tip.

Of course you are never going to achieve audiophile results with this cartridge/styli combination and that conical tip really limits the amount and detail of the music you are trying to extract from your vinyl grooves but overall, it is "passable" quality.

No strange noises, no unusual cartridge or styli movement noticed

Since being tested I have now fully protected the cartridge/styli in a triangle shaped custom box to prevent any damage to that tip in particular.

Perfect to replace a non-working SC-80 cartridge or even just as a source of the headshell, mounting hardware.
