Oh Dear! This item has been sold but take a look around for other similar items

This tonearm was removed from an AWA SP-08 turntable

After some investigation I can say that this turntable was AWA (originally a large Australian electronics designer and manufacturer) only in name and perhaps with some design input only.

As was the case in Japan during the latter part of the 20th century, many contractors in Japan actually designed or manufacturered (or both) electronic products on behalf of their clients.

This turntable is a product of Fujiya Audio, often shortened to FA on product labels. Fujiya undertook various contract work for companies such as Luxman, Sharp/Optonica, Trio/Kenwood, Onkyo, Yamaha, Clarion, Marantz, NEC, Columbia and Nakamichi (specifically the Dragon cassette machine under the guidance of engineer Junichi Okumura)

When dismantling this AWA turntable (which was labelled Made In Japan), many components had the FA code stamped or marked on them.

The AWA SP-08 is a basic entry level consumer turntable from the 1990's, very simple technology (no electronic speed control but uses a multi-diameter drive shaft on the motor to change the rotational speed of the platter via the belt) nothing special in all respects but these spare parts salvaged from the unit I have dismantled could be of some interest for a restoration or repair project.

AWA Turntable SPARE PART

Model: SP-08

Part: tonearm with counter balance

Made in Japan

Standard 9" format arm

Simple plastic/metal pivot

Headshell connector could be changed

Tonearm shaft is aluminium

Actual measurement from pivot to headshell connector 150mm

Tonearm diameter is 8mm

Tonearm mass is estimated to be low (under 10g) although I cannot measure this, I have no scales that will measure weights this low.

Counter balance is solid metal, threaded

Plastic/Brass tonearm support is 22mm length x 10mm diameter, then narrows to 8mm diameter (hole in plinth) and is secured with a nut and lock washer. The brass shaft then extends a further 20mm - this last section usually has the mechanical parts for the on-off microswitch actuation.

Tonearm wiring is in place and not damaged or shortened

Tonearm is stored assembled and it will be provided to the buyer with the counter balance removed and packed separately

Testing performed as outlined in the description. Used item, non returnable
