ARTWORK HISTORY:

Our family is very much into "the Arts" in all it's forms, from music to creative art to chinaware and even classic old (quality) technology!

Our focus has always been landscapes, both Australian and New Zealand but over the years we have gathered far too many and new homes must be found for our "excess" artworks.

This original oil is one of those artworks which sadly must now leave home!

JOHN BURROWES - Rural landscape

This artwork is titled but for the life of us we cannot decipher John's handwriting!

Oil on board/canvas

1980's period

UNFRAMED

Measurements: 405mm x 304mm

No border has been created but you can see where the original frame has discoloured the edges in places. The new owner needs to carefully measure edge to edge, taking into account if there is any artwork going to be lost (visually) when deciding on the new frame.

JOHN BURROWES:

I suspect John was a prolific painter, we have seen many of his paintings over the years and he is probably amateur although we do not know this for sure. His address on the rear shows Leeton (NSW Riverina) but I have seen other paintings with his address being Cockatoo (Dandenong Ranges) and no idea where he may be now.

Back in the 1980's we travelled around NSW and Victoria a great deal and purchased two paintings by John, "Out Back Of Bourke" and this one while travelling "bush" in NSW. We instantly loved his work, which is very fine and the detail is quite outstanding with realistic colouring. Although there is water in the foreground, we seem to remember this was a period of great "dryness" on the land.

It's a shame about the title, yes John has indicated the title on the rear but for the life of us we could never work out what he has written! The best we ever came up with is that it is the name of a property, probably in NSW, the gums (one of our favourite trees, unless there is a storm!) catch the eye but in the background it looks like a stand of "pine like" trees, not necessarily a plantation but perhaps a wind break on the property. Anyway it had all the key elements that we like i.e Australian landscape with fine detail, subject matter that interest us and interesting colouring.
