WARNING: This tape has a minor issue when playing Side B (last track), please the description below for details ...

This cassette release is pretty tough to find a copy of so even with this minor issue I am offering it "as is"

James Reyne - Slave (Single)

Virgin Records

Cat# VOZC098

Australian release

Dolby XDR encoded

1991

Cassette packaging is in very good condition, some "scuff" wear showing to the outer plastic casing, inner card wrap cover is in very good condition.

This cassette clam-shell is a screw type but it uses the horrible plastic screws which are EXTREMELY difficult to remove. It may be possible to get inside the clamshell but based on my past experiences with attempting this, I have made no attempt to open the clamshell.

Tape media is physically very good, head pad secure and tape transport is smooth and without rotational noises (squeaks etc)

Before playing, I have repacked the tape, and played both sides entirely and here are the details of what I heard.

Side A program is duplicated on Side B (identical)

Side A plays fine, both songs sound great with no issues noticed.

However flip the tape (or auto reverse) and ...

Side B plays the first track fine (Slave) but the second song tends to develop a very slight warble over the last 30 seconds of the great song "Outback Woman", the tape is not running evenly and the instrument tones are not pure which creates this very slight "warble" (this does NOT occur on Side A)

I am pretty sure the supply hub needs just a little lubrication/new graphite sleeves but as mentioned above, I will not make an attempt to open this one up. It seems to me that the supply hub has no problems supplying tape across to the takeup hub but reverse the process and when the hub is fully loaded with tape (which isn't much anyway because this is a single release) then the tape movement becomes not so smooth right before the supply hub becomes fully loaded.

Frequency response on both sides seems fine and no drop outs heard either.

TRACKS: Slave, Outback Woman
