HISTORY:

My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.

I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.

While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am learning fast! and my training in electronics helps too!

This reel of Super 8 film is a compilation of three very early, classic silent Black & White films from the early 1900's

Russell's reference #1 (there is no catalogue number on the reel or outer box so I have created a numbering system for my reference) I have hundreds of these films, so a catalogue of some sort is absolutely necessary.

I didn't know that such a thing as a "film compilation" was possible but it looks as though this is such a beast and the front coloured covers of the original boxes have been cut out and stuck to the outer box of this CINECASSETTE Super 8 Reel, 120 metres length.

CONTENT DETAILS ARE BELOW...

Compilation of three films onto one reel

Circa 1970's

FILMS ON THIS REEL ARE:

NOAH'S ARK (1928)

COVERED WAGON (1923)

SQUAW MAN (1914)

I believe these are prints from the original Ken Film releases or perhaps well spliced original film - no idea really!

As one film finishes, the film transitions to the next film "seamlessly" i.e no ugly glitches from poor splicing

Film stock is clean

Leader is fitted

Run time of the WHOLE reel is 16 minutes, roughly 5 minutes per film

I have actually RUN THE WHOLE FILM through one of the projectors I am checking out before finding a new owner for it (EUMIG S934 Automix)

The complete reel plays fine, picture quality is surprisingly good too!

SPECIAL NOTE: I never expected this but I found Silent Film to be fascinating! Why? (I hear you ask with one eye slightly closed)

Unlike "modern" film, the actors and actresses needed to use their facial expressions to a much greater extent as there was no sound to "fill out" the situation and fast action movements (such as in moments of anger) just weren't commonly used almost 100 years ago. It was all in the face, particularly the leading ladies - some of the actresses I watched are masterful at showing their emotions by just using their eyes! Very powerful projection of their emotive state and I found myself watching the characters faces far more than with contemporary films. This really really interested me.

Since playing the film reel, I have now sealed it in clear plastic, inserted into the outer box and sealed it yet again - this film is now stored in a cool, dark environment because I want to protect these until a new owner can be found!
