TDK- EPCOS origins go back to the Siemens (Germany) days, Siemens were (and still are) one of the best electronic component manufacturer's around, unfortunately also often the most expensive!
Siemens wanted to get out of the passive component business just before the end of the 20th Century and partnered with Matshushita (Japan) initially and then with TDK. The part numbers used can still be referenced directly back to the original Siemens component coding system.
