NEW Old Stock

Ex our production & R & D spare parts stores, I have retired from the "game" and all these bits and pieces are looking for a new workshop

Telefunken made some great electronic components, they had been in the business since the early 1900's! Actually it was Telefunken that produced the first Red LED, followed by Green LED in 1977 plus many other optical device innovations. As an aside, I think it was Siemens who created the first Blue LED device, a distributor of the Blue LED's from Siemens used to sell them in the 1980's at A$75 trade price EACH! But I digress ... as happens so often in the world of electronics, Telefunken underwent a number of changes and eventually some of the product lines, including optical, went under the management of Vishay Semiconductor GmbH in 1998

TELEFUNKEN (GERMANY) - LED

Part # TLBR 5410

Special feature: Auto flashing (no external timing components required)

Light Colour: RED (See the photograph of the actual LED lit up)

Lens: Diffused

Size: 5mm

Intensity: greater than 1mcd (datasheet info) - not your "torchlight" brightness but fine for panel warning lights.

Vf = 5V (see my test notes below about this)

Viewing angle 40°

DIMENSIONS:

5mm diameter x 8.25mm length

Axial tinned copper wire leads (22mm/26mm length x 0.45mm flat)

TESTING:

Although new, I wanted to check these out - they are OLD stock from long ago and especially when the age is considered, pretty advanced devices for their day.

This is no ordinary Red led! Vf is normally about 5V (according to the datasheets) but I undertook testing as low as 3V and they still worked just fine. Immediately when voltage is applied, it flashes and when I changed Vf up to 5, the brightness barely changed nor did the frequency of the flashing. The flash speed is 3Hz or 3 times per second and the frequency is fixed (you cannot add a capacitor or resistor to change the flash rate).

There are NO external timing components, everything is inside the led envelope.

NOTE: the control timer built into the device) is P-Mos based, do NOT handle like a normal LED as these led's are ESD sensitive - thus the special packaging.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

NEW Old Stock

NO body damage

Leads are clean and relatively shiny (very slight partial oxidisation noticed on the legs, where the colour has changed from a shiny Silver to a slight Brownish colour) This will not affect usage or solderability.

Always stored in ESD safe material, repacked today because as I didn't like the original ESD protection used for storage (tin-foil wrapping) That Pink foam that the pins are inserted into is special ESD material created for this purpose.

This is not an ongoing supply, once my workshop spares are gone .... there will be no more

*** If the photograph shows multiple LED's, I am offering in the advertisement price  ONE LED, not all of them for this price ***
