HISTORY:

This component has been pulled from some E & L Instruments (USA) laboratory R & D equipment which has very recently been on the "operating table" destined to become a "component donor" due to some case damage (steel but damaged none-the-less)

I am always on the look out for "unusual" bits and pieces that could be useful to someone else (and save them from landfill)

These are insulated component posts, intended to be mounted on a panel so that external access is available to lamps, switches, pots - in the original equipment the user used jumper leads (alligator or hook leads) to connect various active and passive components together as part of the circuit design development.

These are intended to friction fit into a small hole drilled in the panel metalwork. The insulating material (White) appears to be a type of nylon and is not affected by "soldering iron" temperatures when connecting the wires on the underside.

The post metal appears to be an alloy, possibly Brass. It does not "clean up" like Silver and although now very clean, it has a "subdued shine" to the surface. No problems with conductivity but it just doesn't look "nice" with that dull look.

The top of the post is similar to a machined IC socket.

Solder pin at one end (with a flange as these had the connecting wires wrapped around the post and then soldered) and the top end is the connecting post with a tiny hole in the end. While it may be possible to insert component leads directly into this post, we always just used the jumper lead method of connection.

DIMENSIONS:

We are talking small, in fact very small ...

LENGTHS

Post (total): 11.3mm

Post (topside): 3mm

Post (solder side): 3mm (NOTE that this is not a PCB pin but intended for direct wire soldering)

Post diameter: 0.95mm

Mounting hole required: 3.6mm and maximum is 4.5mm

There is a flange on this White section with a diameter of 4.5mm.

The component post is inserted into the panel metalwork from the topside, it must be a nice tight fit (no glue was used in the original equipment)

NO damage at all, particularly to the White insulating bushing. I did break a couple of these (with pliers while I was figuring out how to extract them) so the White material is "brittle" and doesn't take kindly to bending!

Dullness to the metal centre pin, see my notes above about this metal

I pondered how to offer these and finally decided that "one off's" probably offers the greatest flexibility although there is an automatic discount "built-in" for quantity purchases - I just want them to see some use once again

No matter how many are purchased, they will be safely packed in a sealed clear plastic packet - these are very small!
