This stand-alone tuner was used with our own PIONEER Midi System Z93 Midi Stereo System.

This F-Z93L Tuner/Timer/System control unit is designed to be placed on the top of the main Z93 MIDI unit and via a special cable, it controls all the functions of the Z93, provides timer functions (Turn ON or OFF at preselected times) and of course, a AM/FM Tuner. This unit also includes an IR remote control receiver which sends the control signals to the main unit (DC-Z93 Amplifier, Equaliser, Twin Cassette Decks) via a special ribbon cable (permanently attached to the rear of this receiver). If you try and use a remote without this component, it will NOT work because this Tuner component contains the remote control receiver, not the main unit.

I have included an (extracted from the User Manual) interconnect diagram which may explain the setup a little clearer....this User Manual can be supplied (if requested) in digital form (pdf file) as it is 96 pages in total length or 28 pages for the English section, a bit much to print out in a hardcopy.

TESTING:
This PIONEER Z93 system has been in our family (children's entertainment music) and the Z93L Tuner/Remote Control/Timer has been and still is functioning without any problems at all.
SPECIAL MENTION:
Long Wave, what on earth is that?
Not many tuners can receive Long Wave and it is truly a bit of a curiosity but while passing the time at night (especially), it can be a bit of fun (if that is your idea of fun) to listen around on LW.
Most often you will hear strange "spacey" buzzing sounds from radio beacons (Aeronautical navigation) and electronic equipment in your local area but if you listen at night (when the distant radio signals are generally stronger) you will hear "foreign talking and music stations" as well.
I can confirm that ALL bands are working correctly and the AM/FM "standard section" is fine, along with the LW. The tuning on LW is in 1Khz steps but there is no auto tuning function on this band (where the tuner will automatically stop on a strong received signal) This means you need to push the tuning button for each 1Khz change in frequency, wait just briefly for the receiver to "settle down" and then you will hear the audio. A bit tedious but it works! Don't expect miracles on LW, the sensitivity isn't all that startling (1500uV compared to 350uV on AM), but it works fine enough. If you were going to get REALLY serious about exploring LW, then you will need to set up a nice long wave antenna system in your backyard!
Since my final checks and photograph(s), I have now carefully protected the rear control cable which connects to the Z93 Main unit because this cable is critical to the operation - power, audio and control signals all pass through this cable.
