Nice piece of audio nostalgia even if it is the CYLINDER TUBE CASE ONLY

When we moved house a few years back, the cyclinder (which are quite brittle) was destroyed so I am offering just the EMPTY CASE for someone who is "into" collecting OLD audio gear

The Amberol range of cylinder recordings began production in 1908 and had finer grooves than previous cylinders.

Running speed was 160rpm

Cylinder length is 4.5" x 2" diameter

Play time was a massive 4 minutes!

EDISON AMBEROL RECORD - Casing Only

Contents (marked on the top) WERE:

# 67

Sing Me To Sleep

Soprano & Tenor (Miss Chapman And Mr Anthony - no surnames used!)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Pretty amazing for a cardboard tube over 100 years old!

Not too badly discoloured, green graphic print

Nice picture of Thomas Edison on one side

Draconian instructions about the legal use of the cylinder, multi-national patents etc

Love the top cap which clearly says

"THIS RECORD SHOULD RUN 160 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE, NOT FASTER OR SLOWER"

Seems a strange instruction to me, the playback machines were hardly "precision speed machines"

Don't forget this type of recording was right at the forefront of "current" late 19th Century audio technology, no electronics but mechanical marvels! Actually it seems that Edison became bored with these machines he had developed and instead moved onto inventing another very "high tech" device, the incandescent lightbulb!

The cylinder is NOT squashed or mis-shapen in any way.

The top cap fits nice and tightly and has not fallen apart

To maintain the current condition as much as possible, I have now placed the cylinder within a sealed clear plastic packaging to protect it from the environment.
