HISTORY:

My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.

I ran an audio post production facility for many years and our world was analog tape (all sizes) shellac, vinyl and even 1940's cardboard records from WWII!

I am working through an amount of 1/4" magnetic audio tape which has been well looked after (temperature controlled environment in the dark!) and now it is time to find new owners for this gear.

At this stage, most of the tape is 1/4" up to 7 inch reel size and a wide range of manufacturers

This BASF audio recording tape is a bit of an antiquity and probably for "museum interest" only.

BASF refers to this package as a cassette, although inside the case is a tiny 3 inch reel of BASF tape and a multi-language booklet plus label sheet

Don't mistake this for the "traditional" cassette tapes, it is not - I checked around online and I can see others with these BASF "cassette" products in their original boxes and they are definitely labelled as "Cassettes" but are in fact very small reels.

According to the booklet inside the case, the tape formulation is Chromium Dioxide.

Another unusual aspect is the very nice plastic BASF archival case with the drop down front, just like it's "big brothers" used for the larger R2R spools.

So here we go ...

BASF - Audio Recording Tape

Manufactured in Germany

Circa 1970's ~ 1980's

Type: SM Cassette

Format: 1/4"

Size: 3 Inch Reel

Length: 45 Metres (150 Feet)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

CLEAN

Tape reel is within an inner protective case (two part)

I am not sure if the tape has been used, probably on a dictaphone if ever it was and certainly we never used such small reels.

The tape is well packed on the reel, Green leader tape is fitted.

Label pack with the reel

ALL unmarked, no writing

Along with the tape (cassette) is two "scrolls" - one is the multi-language instructions/information about the cassette and the other is a label sheet

These are rolled into a scroll as that is the only way they will fit inside the case.

The archival case is one of the very nice BASF "drop down" front style cases. Light Grey colouring all over.

The case also has NO writing or other marks.

To maintain the current condition, I have now sealed the complete "cassette" package in clear plastic.
