Johnson Brothers was founded in 1883 by Frederick and Alfred Johnson, two grandsons of the founders of the renowned English pottery, J. & G. Meakin, Eventually their manufacturing moved offshore to China around 2003

The company was a major supplier of tablewares, and this design was known as the Dawn series which was introduced in the 1920's and production continued through until the late 1960's

By the mid 1940's Johnson Brothers was one of the world's largest manufacturers of earthenware and ironstone china products. By this time their products were well known for quality, hardiness and reasonable pricing.

JOHNSON BROTHERS - Demitasse Teacup ONLY

Circa 1950's ~ 1960's (Based on the design and backstamp MADE IN ENGLAND - not just the single word ENGLAND)

Opaque earthenware, meaning you cannot see through the pourer when held to the light.

Design: Dawn Series

Colour: Golden Dawn ***

*** To be truthful, it looks more like Lemon Dawn (for which I can find no references!) the Yellow is more Lemon-like than Golden

All over colouring with no decoration at all

No features to specifically point out, plain simple and functional

Dimensions:

Top opening 74mm diameter

Height: 62mm

Weight: 100g

Photographs can be deceptive, this is a SMALL teacup but not a demi coffee cup such as those commonly used on the Continent. We had the complete set and this was a teaset not a coffee set.

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

Limited information and in fact the name JOHNSON BROS is NOT on the backstamp but as I have indentical items from the same set (teapot) which DO have the makers name on them, I am 100% sure this is JOHNSON BROS product

Imprinted into the base underneath (quite difficult to read)

MADE IN

ENGLAND

NO artists marks at all (not surprising as there is no decorative work!)
