This piece "looks" to be from the well known Diana potteries of the 1950's but as it has no backstamp, I cannot state this 100% BUT the quality of workmanship, drip glaze colouring is very much in the style of Diana ware. It really isn't too surprising that it does not have a backstamp as Diana produced very large numbers of pottery pieces in their day, for the general consumer market. We had a large collection of Diana ware's, some with signatures, some with just Style numbers but this one has nothing, just the 3 indents from the potter's wheel.

Extremely attractive decorative piece (with side handles)

I tend to think this piece was intended for decorative purposes more than a vase as this mouth is very wide for a vase and it has the side carry handles.

Hand crafted rose bud on one side

Distinctive drip glaze with a high lustre, colours of the earth i.e greens, yellows, browns and reds

The rose bud is all cream coloured with four very detailed leaves in green

Inside the piece is glazed.

Dimensions: 12cm diameter x 10cm high (external measurements) with that mouth being 7cm diameter, that is pretty large for a flower vase!

CONDITION:

Wet soaked to determine if there is any hidden glaze failures (crazing) - NONE at all

NO cracks

Rose bud petals and leaves are completely undamaged (this is the most delicate part of the piece)

HOWEVER

I noticed one chip on the outer rim (see the photograph)

This is a chip only and no cracking has occurred, the piece remains watertight (if that is important to you)

This is the ONLY defect I can see, even with very close inspection

NO other chips or fleabites

Excellent, visually eye-catching Australian pottery piece from the 1950's
