One of the most enjoyable tales concerns the Sydney band Appleseed unwisely accepting a booking to play a wedding. A slightly overstressed father of the bride greeted the band's query about where to set up with: "Just get the fuck out of my face ... get in that bloody marquee, play when I tell you to and you'll be paid if I care to."
The Sydney four-piece was unable to find any spare powerboards within the marquee, but thought it safer to quietly unplug a couple of other leads rather than face the father again. The author records what happened next: "As they were packing up, an angry cry from the demonic father ripped throughout the party and into the neighbouring streets. The two cords ... belonged to two pork-spit rotisseries. Hidden from view well behind the marquee were two pigs, motionless. The bottom half of each was charred black ... the top half, milky white and raw. Needless to say, Appleseed waived their performance fee before making a swift exit."
