German equipment designed for the Educational environment or for experimentation

If you are undertaking study, experimentation in the discipline of natural science, this equipment component could be very interesting. Designed as a part of a instrumental system for the generation of energy spectra of radioactive substances.

The MCA classifies incoming voltage pulses according to pulse height. The connection between the pulse height and the energy of the radiation quantum is effected by the
particular input amplifier and detector used.

Phywe is a German based company that specialises in producing and supplying specialised equipment to be used in the study and experimentation in the field of natural sciences, so not only radioactive particles but also experimentation in other fields such as semiconductors. Their equipment is produced as teaching aids intended for use by secondary schools and universities.

PHYWE Multichannel Analyser (also referred to as simply the MCA)

Part number 13726-99

Powered from our normal 240V AC 10A GPO

You can see from the photographs the facilities available at the front panel and a block diagram of this equipment's functions, I also have the brochure (pdf format) which gives considerable detail on the technical aspects of this equipment and its use.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Excellent condtition, no marks and no damage to the very nice instrument case.

TESTING:

Power on test is fine (green led on)

Not a lot I can test with this equipment but I can confirm the DIN female connector does have = & - 12V present and the Bias connector (BNC type) does have -33V, -66V or -99V depending on the switch setting (watch out for that 99V!)

I do not have the software driver for the USB port but I would imagine it is not hard to get from Phywe themselves. Looking at their downloads section, they currently list a software download for this analyser (105Mb) although they do not indicate if this includes the drivers and for which version of Windows.

Now this equipment is not normally sold to private individuals by Phywe, being intended for educational institution use but this MCA could be useful to replace an existing (faulty) MCA or PERHAPS Phywe would supply an experimental kit less this MCA (saving big money)

Tested as described in the description This item is not returnable, UNLESS not as described
