These are offered to those who might have a use for these overseas in particular or for experimentation but they are absolutely useless for use with the original carrier Telstra on a CDMA network because their CDMA systems were shut down years ago.
HOWEVER, if you have a look at this Wiki link there does still seem to be some compatible systems around the globe so perhaps these can be put to use somewhere other than Australia

The other drawback is the interface, these are PCMCIA slot modems - now long since replaced by USB.
