At those voltages, these lamps are pretty power hungry with an estimated 90mA drawn off the supply for each lamp - imagine a panel with 100 lamps all indicating at the same time, that's a lot of current just for the indicators.
If the "hi tech" technology of incandescent lamps is "new" to you, these work on both AC or DC supplies and a common "trick" is to run the lamps at a lower voltage than their design 12V to give a longer filament lifetime but the trade-off is a slightly lower light output and change of colour tending towards yellow instead of white.
