Ex German professional laboratory equipment

High quality German manufactured iron E core transformer with multiple outputs

Tested prior to removal from the Siemens equipment, all windings are functioning.

This transformer was used in some very specialised lab equipment and was required to supply multiple low voltage outputs.

Manufacturer of the transformer is unknown - it is only marked (stamped) on the frame as

W13 (a) one side and W13 (b) the other

This would have been an internal Siemens part number related to the equipment and the transformer not offered as a separate component.

Screw down terminal strip on one side/top for the primary...

0 - 230V -  5% & -5%

My test readings on the secondaries were made using the 0 - 230/ 5% winding.

The secondary windings are all enamel coated and within insulating material, not a plastic sheath.

There are 6 separate secondary windings, 3 of them having centre taps

Looking at the size of the core and the diameter of the secondary windings, I would estimate you could easily draw 1 amp through the heavier windings, about 500mA through the smaller diameter windings (see below about the windings).

All secondaries are marked with a small tag indicating the measured voltages (open circuit)

Note that two wires have no AC voltage output and I strongly suspect this connects to an internal Faraday shield.

Each winding is isolated from the other windings - this is not just one winding with multiple taps.

A small yellow tag is attached to each pair or triple wires for the winding with the AC voltage marked on the tag

NOTE: Most windings are the same gauge wire but a couple are much smaller gauge = less current capability, these are indicated below:

9v - fine for around 1 amp

9v - fine for around 1 amp

15v - fine for around 1 amp

No connection pair - much lighter gauge

36v centre tapped - much lighter gauge

36v centre tapped - fine for around .5 amp

36v centre tapped - fine for around .5 amp

These current guides are just estimates based on the diameter of the copper wire.

Actually all wires coming from the transformer secondary are two enamelled wires, twisted together.

Each is terminated with a pin for insertion into DIN sockets - easy to modify.

Secondary flying leads are all the same length - 250mm

Transformer measures: 85mm wide x 80mm high x 60mm front to back

Lots of possibilites for use in a custom multi-voltage power supply, single or dual rail
