Navman Wireless developed a number of very interesting products specific to fleet management/vehicle tracking but also used anywhere that there is a requirement for remote monitoring of mobile/portable resources.

Offered for EXPERIMENTATION purposes only or possibly as a product replacement (sometimes this equipment goes "missing" from vehicles!)

TESTING:

Testing was undertaken in conjunction with the Mobile Data Terminals I previously had here (MDT860's) - but please note that I no longer have any MDT860 or other data terminals available

Powers up (green led), searches for GSM and GPS access and if successful, both red and orange LED's are steady.

At the time of testing the SIM was active (Telstra SIM card) access to the GSM network was achieved.

I used a straight CAT 5 cable to connect this module to the MDT-860 (NOT included with this module and no longer available) and they communicated successfully. The MDT comes alive and shows I have GSM access and GPS satellites. I can move the GPS antenna around and lose access, this information is showing on the MDT display.

Although I tested using the MDT860, I also had some M760's and they worked fine as well.

I then used the MDT-860 to send myself "test messages" via the GSM network and I received messages in my MDT860 Inbox.

Diagnostics on the MDT indicate the modem is online and the software version installed on the Qube is 0.8.13.908

So in summary, the Qube 3 "talks" to the data terminal and allows for the user to send/receive messages and display GPS data. Typically the system is used by "central control" (the office/control room/despatch operators) to send task instructions to the mobile units, even sending the GPS location automatically via the system (no need to look up maps etc - the co-ordinates are sent directly to the MDT860 map. Remote tracking of the vehicle movements is provided back to the central control.

These fleet management system functions can ONLY be achieved if the user has the AVL2 software (proprietary software - not freeware)

NOTE: OnlineAVL2 is a commercial software system (fees apply) and you will need to arrange your own software access for continued use with Navman Wireless.

Each Qube 3 Mobile user kit has been tested to the limited extent mentioned above (GSM/GPS functions)

NOTE: One Qube 3 user kit has a damaged GSM antenna but it would not be difficult to repair (
