Oh Dear! This item has been sold but take a look around for other similar items

Codan, an Australian success story in the electronics industry and now a well known supplier of both commercial and military open and secure communications systems.

Extremely well known by outback travellers, most would be carrying some Codan HF equipment on board.

This base power supply (fixed to the standard 240V AC power supply) was in use until last year at a special Federal Government remote communications facility, it has been tested and is working perfectly.

While designed and intended for HF radio equipment use, there is no reason why this could not be used as a nice medium current benchtop power supply

CODAN Power Supply

Model# 7113-B

Linear power supply, designed and manufactured here in Australia

Extremely well laid out inside, rugged construction and casing

Main output (front and rear panel access) is 13.3V FULLY REGULATED

Battery charger output is 13.8V FULLY REGULATED

Very low ripple current (specs quote as less than 2mV)

2x inductors, one is the primary step-down AC transformer and the other is a large series choke.

Heavy (solid large gauge wiring) point to point wiring with just one PCB to control the series pass transistors

5x 2N3055 RCA Steel cased transistors (classics) mounted on the rear

All steel casing, solid as a rock (and feels like a rock too, bend the knees lifting this beastie!)

Weight: 13Kg

Dimensions: 340mm wide x 117mm height x 300mm depth

CONDITION:

Very good overall

This has been sitting, quietly working away at supplying some HF equipment for years - never missed a beat!

Case is straight and with barely any marks or scratches EXCEPT the top of the case where it got a bit scratched (in two areas only) when being transported back to Sydney.

TESTING - TECHNICAL

I saw another person with one of these advertised on "Fleabay" who only described it as "the light comes on" good grief man, tell the people at least whether it works or not!

Power on-off switch functions fine - on comes the front panel light

Relay operates (see attached schematic for the purpose of this relay in the output of the power supply)

DC output (measured at the front and rear panels) is 13.33V

DC output (measured at the rear panel - battery charging output) is 13.80V

Placed the power supply under load, 5A & 10A current drawn - no sag in the output voltage at all.

Sustained use at 10A didn't even get the cases of the 2N3055's noticeably warm - this is a very conservatively designed power supply.

The CINCH connectors at the rear look a bit out of place in a basic power supply and although they are 8 way each, pins are wired together to increase the current handling capability at those connectors - in reality there is only a + and - DC potential at each connector.

Those two rear CINCH connectors are a bit old world now BUT I do have some of those CINCH connectors if you should need one, take a search on my website for them. You can also buy those connectors from the likes of Element-14 but they are pretty expensive!

Finally it's nice to see the Testel tag (yearly electrical testing which is required but often not undertaken by users) - last test was 2020, because the equipment was in use. Next scheduled test was this year but has not been made due to disposal of all their analog HF equipment.

Nice assembly work inside, old school heavy duty point-to-point is extensively used. Lovely ELNA electro's (screw terminals) and very impressive well made AC stepdown transformer and the large choke next door.

SPECIAL NOTE: Regarding shipping

My website only has an API for Australia Post and this item is HEAVY, which means the cost of shipping via Australia Post can be quite high

HOWEVER

I also can ship using courier services (Couriers Please for example) and they are often (but not always) more cost effective

For example, shipping to Melbourne metro area by Post is $30

Shipping to Melbourne metro area by Courier is $20

Keep in mind that couriers are really only cost effective when sending to major Eastern Capital cities and surrounds but I can quote for special shipping needs.
