These turntables are quite good, certainly not in the class of the broadcast decks such as the SP-10 or the much later 1200's aimed at the DJ/Club market but a good "entry level" Technics deck

Much more sophisticated than the old "arms and levers" style of control for the arm, this turntable uses much fewer tonearm control mechanicals and has features such as auto record size detection using LED's/photodetectors.

Originally retailed for around A$400 back in the early 1980's

Technics SL-D33 Turntable SPARE PART ONLY (not complete)

Tonearm Drive Module - this moves the tonearm from rest to play and back again when required

Perfect for Technics turntable restoration or as a source of spare parts

The Technics SL-D33 tonearm system comprises three major components:

a) Arm drive system

b) Arm position sensor plate

c) Tonearm

The components offered here are (a) - the arm drive system.

This module is primarily a medium sized DC motor with belt drive to a set a gears. The module also has a board for the audio output wiring from the tonearm and a position switch. This module is under the control of the mainboard.

ALL that you see in the photographs is being offered, including the mounting hardware.

Complete with all wiring although there is only two wires, these being the motor DC supply line from the mainboard. I have desoldered the two wires so I could separate this module from the Auto start/stop plate as they use a common connector at the mainboard. Very easy to resolder the wires from an existing turntable.

These wires to the motor are colour coded, see the photograph to work out which wires goes to which terminal on the motor.

TWO FAULTS IN NEED OF REPAIR:

a) drive belt from the motor to the worm gear has fallen apart - these are not difficult to obtain, a good place to start is Wagners Sydney.

b) smaller gear is cracked - not broken (yet) but it should be replaced.

The grease is very old and has gone "thick" - the whole gear system needs cleaning up and re-greasing.

All components have been very carefully removed from the "sacrificial" turntable.

The service manual (printed hardcopy 16 pages) is invaluable and will be supplied (if needed) - there is some "Jinglish" in the manual but it is pretty straightforward to work out what the Japanese mean!
