Oh Dear! This item has been sold but take a look around for other similar items

Ex ENERGY Model 3.1e bookshelf audiophile speakers which, although working great, were taken apart due to the sound engineer wanting to see what they used inside, then over time the front grille (cloth) became damaged and I looked at the cabinets and they are not great any longer - so out go the "interesting" parts for that high quality custom loudspeaker project or just a replacement if you have an ENERGY 3.1e system.

WTF? ENERGY?

Energy are based in Ontario, Canada and still going strong. The company was founded in 1973 and the theme that runs through all of their products is audiophile at a "reasonable" price point - depends what you call reasonable, at the release year these speakers were retailing for over CAD$500, thats 30 years ago so imagine the cost in "today's" money!

I don't think ENERGY pushed a lot of their product over to Australia, we had to hunt around before finally finding the 3.1e's but the search was well worth it. We had heard about these bookshelf systems through industry sources, so we had to get a pair to play around with!

These crossover networks were made by Energy, not a 3rd party sub-contractor.

Energy (Canada) Bookshelf Speaker Crossover Network SPARE PART

Model: 3.1e

Part # HPC-14B

Two way

Released to market 1991

Original bookshelf speaker pricing in 1991 was A$650/pair

Crossover frequency: 3Khz

Power handling: 150W RMS

Impedance output: 6 Ohm

Loudspeakers originally used by ENERGY

Tweeter: 5DR53029

Mid Range/Woofer: 4DR51767-A

Board dimensions: 70mm x 50mm x 30mm

Crossover network board is supported by the rear terminals used for your loudspeaker cabinet, there are no mounting holes on the PCB.

I am supplying the board/leads as pictured (for flexibility) just fit the two connection strips to your own speaker terminals.

The two speaker input metal strips (that are connected to your terminals of choice) are 22mm apart and a 4mm diameter hole in each strip

The flying leads are colour coded:

Red & Black - Woofer/Driver

Blue & Black - Tweeter

All leads use spade (female) terminals at the loudspeaker connection end. At the crossover PCB, the tweeter leads also have spade terminals but the woofer/driver lead is soldered to the PCB.

SPECIAL NOTE:

While removing these from the cabinet I noticed a manufacturing fault with ONE Crossover Network! When Energy put the cabinet together (with it's intricate system of internal ports) they jammed one of the internal port walls up against the blue wire which goes to the tweeter. The lead became "squashed" quite a bit of pressure has been applied to a small area of this lead. I tested the lead (DC resistance, moving the lead around while testing) and it does not appear to have been affected internally but the sheath looks "squashed" (see the photograph)

This applies to one lead on one crossover PCB only - all other wires are fine on that board and the othere crossover network board has no issues at all.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Without any issues.

TESTING:

Salvaged from another of our "a cut above the rest" bookshelf speakers that we had "on hand" from time to time in my audio post production business from the mid 1980's until 2010. These were used as client "listeners" although the audio is startling good, clean and quite neutral - we used Tannoys as near fields in the studio but the sound engineer also thought these sounded pretty damn good too.

With all that said, I am ONLY offering the cross-over network here.

The 3.1e's were run one last time prior to seeking new homes for their "organs" - no issues at all, the crossover is working a treat even at high volume. I ran these a much highter than "normal" listening levels to see how those woofers handle things and they are VERY GOOD sounding (at high levels the sound was still clean, detailed and hadn't dropped into a gooey mess) - nice woofer, good boy!

NOTE: This advertisement is for ONE crossover network, I do have two available but have split the advertisement into "two available" because often just one is required for a client's 3.1e loudspeaker but if you should need both of these crossovers, an automatic discount does apply (30% off) when BOTH are purchased.

Since testing, this crossover network is now sealed in plastic and this is how it will be supplied.
